Why it is on your agenda, not just ours
Social value stopped being a moral argument some time ago. The Social Value Act, Procurement Policy Note 06/20 and the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive all oblige public bodies to weigh it when they choose suppliers, which means it now decides contracts.
Most organisations already know they have to evidence it. The harder part is finding something real to point at — work that actually happened, that someone can stand over, and that sits close enough to your own operation to be worth writing about in a tender.
How working with us counts towards yours
Public tenders increasingly ask what you have already done rather than what you intend to do. Each of these puts something evidenced against that answer.
Training that counts twice
Conflict resolution, leadership and resilience skills delivered to your own team. Your people keep the capability, and the spend counts towards the social value commitments in your tenders and frameworks.
Workplace mediation
Dealing with a dispute before it becomes a grievance avoids formal HR cost, absence and, at worst, a resignation — and the outcome itself is a social good, not just a saving.
Put work into your own community
We can design and deliver a programme where your people, your customers or your sites actually are — interface work, restorative practice in a school, a specific local issue — funded by you as part of your social value obligations.
Commercial work pays for community work
Fees from training and workplace mediation subsidise the community and peacebuilding side. Buying from us is not a donation with a warm feeling attached; it is the mechanism that funds the work.
“Organisations that partner with TIDES Mediation NI don’t just meet a quota; they become part of a peacebuilding legacy.”
Where the value came from
Outcomes were mapped across mediation, training and community work, then priced using the HACT Social Value Bank, Labour Relations Agency reports, CIPD research and UK government data.
| Where the value landed | Modelled | After adjustment |
|---|---|---|
| Mental health and emotional resilience | £13,265,409 | £1,835,601 |
| Community connection | £11,256,201 | £1,557,577 |
| Workplace stability | £4,856,724 | £672,049 |
| Education and employability | £3,208,224 | £443,938 |
| HR and organisational processes | £676,751 | £93,645 |
| Total | £33,263,309 | £4,602,810 |
The two columns matter. The modelled column is the raw total before adjustment. The ratio is calculated from the adjusted column, after attribution (75%), deadweight (25%), displacement (0%), drop-off (41% averaged over three years) and an optimism bias of 40%. £4,602,810 against £653,406 of expenditure gives £7.04 per £1. The method follows Social Value International principles.
Scope. These figures cover Mediation NI’s mediation, training and community work between April 2022 and March 2025.
What that looked like on the ground
Between us we have reached more than 3,904 people across the UK, Ireland and beyond. That is mediation in workplaces and between neighbours, accredited training delivered to organisations and community groups, and long-running programmes in places under real pressure.
Recent work has included the response to racial and sectarian tensions in Antrim, ongoing engagement with bonfire builders, communities and statutory agencies, a cross-community Men’s Sheds programme on contentious cultural issues, and a regional restorative practice partnership with the Education Authority reaching schools and the communities around them.
Community learners have gained accredited OCN qualifications in subjects including hate crime, mediation and civic leadership — qualifications that stay with the person, and with the group they go back to.
