What this course is

In a workplace: The accredited grounding in mediation skills, for people who handle disputes as part of a wider role.

In a community setting: The accredited grounding in mediation skills, for people already resolving things in their own community.

Core mediation skills are the same discipline whoever is in the room. This is the accredited counterpart to the one-day workplace courses, and the natural route into practice for community workers.

What you will cover

Delivered against the OCN Northern Ireland unit specification. By the end of it you will have covered:

  • The dynamics and possible causes of conflict, and a clearer understanding of yourself in it
  • How communication affects a conflict situation
  • Applying a conflict resolution model
  • Planning and demonstrating mediation skills
  • Reflecting on your own role in conflict, and recognising your own triggers

Who it is for

We run this for workplaces and for community organisations alike. The material is the same; the examples and the pace are set by the group in the room.

This is skills course — a short course, complete in itself. There is no prerequisite, and nothing you are expected to take afterwards.

How it runs

We deliver this course to a whole group rather than as a public course.

01

Talk it through

Tell us who the group is and what you need out of it. Usually a short call.

02

We shape it

The accredited content is fixed, but the examples, the case material and the pace are built around your group.

03

We deliver it

In your own setting or online, over 3 days, at times that suit the group.

04

Accreditation

Learners are registered with OCN Northern Ireland and assessed against the published criteria.
